How to recover your lost yahoo id?
(Written by: x_pankaj_x@intellectualheaven.com)

There are several things that can be happening here, so let's analyze each possible case one by one:
  • Account locked due to security reason: What most probably has happened in this case is that someone has tried to login too many times in your account and so for your protection, yahoo has locked your account for sometime (usually 24 hours). It is better that you don't try to login in your account for at least 24 hours, because more attempts will cause your account to be locked for longer duration. After 24 or more hours when you are able to login, then make sure you change your password to a very hard to guess one. Usually passwords which contains (#%^&) etc. in them are hard to guess and break.

  • Booted and lost yahoo id: This can happen, if someone booted you or you used a booter and someone reported you to yahoo or someone played a mischief with your id which caused your id to be blocked by yahoo. In such cases, if you are unable to login using yahoo messenger but you *can* login in yahoo mail or chat then you need to fill the form at http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/mesg/cgi_feedback and explain in detail about what happened. You should write more complaints because more complaints have higher chances of yahoo attention. If on the other hand you can *neither* login in yahoo mail or chat *nor* you can login in your yahoo messenger, then your yahoo id is completely blocked by yahoo and the only option you have is to fill the form at http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/edit/cgi_feedback and again, more complaints the better it is but keep in mind not to spam their feedback system. Usually you should file one complaint once in 2-3 days till you get a specific reply from them (and not an automated one).

  • One more thing you should try to do is, you should try to login on a different machine because many times yahoo cache certain information which cause it to not being able to login using a particular id from a machine or you should uninstall yahoo, search for all the files which contains "*yah*" in their names and delete them including all the folders matching that name and reinstall yahoo (Note: This manual deletion of contents off your hard disk can be dangerous in some cases, if you accidentally delete some important file. So before deleting a file, make sure it actually belongs to yahoo and not to some other program)

  • And lastly, if nothing works then you will have is to write more complaints as specified in step 2 or wait for few months because yahoo usually release the locked id once in a while after couple of months.
